Sometimes change happens, not because of force, incentive, or pressure, but because the time is right and it makes sense to a lot of people. I believe that a soon to be realized example of such a change will be the ubiquitous availability of the “Blue Button.” The Blue Button’s popularity got the attention of another government agency, the Indian Health Service (IHS). The IHS was also using the VistA EMR system. The IHS installed the Blue Button in its version of VistA, and it immediately gained the level of use and popularity as it had within the VA system.
